Given the arid hiring landscape out there, we thought we’d put this question to graduate recruiters on your behalf. Some of them responded. Some of them are hiring for 2009 – even in the front office. Some of them never got back to us (we’ll chase them and will update if they do). And some of them did get back to us, but refused to comment (draw your own conclusions). Here’s what they said….

In one the earlier articles, the writer stated that UBS was not hiring. They had a hiring freeze. However now in this article UBS has suddenly decided to hire. Slightly confused. Is this definitely the correct information.
Add your comment »Blackknight - the previous article, 'UBS deferring graduate offers,' said that UBS had offered a large proportion of the 2007 intern class (who were supposed to be starting now) the option to defer until next year. According to interns who spent last summer at UBS, this has made it more difficult - but not impossible - to get a full time place at the bank for a 2009 start. The information above was provided by graduate recruiters at the bank itself.
It is therefore safe to assume that UBS is hiring, but fewer people than it would without the deferrals.
It seems that it is in UBS culture to hide everything and make people believe that they are in good shape, hiring while they are NOT.
Add your comment »Hi Sarah, I notice that you have a lot of coverage of the undergraduate/graduate recruitment process however, what about post-graduate recruitment? Am seriously considering undertaking a masters or MBA however, recent market events have made me question the wisdom of embarking on such a venture next year. Would it be possible to shed some light on this area for me and no doubt a lot of other people who use this site?
Ta very much!!
well ive already graduatd,,and looking for jobs,,nothing yet,,it seems im going abroad to fing a respectfull good paid job,can you imagine that i have Msc in banking and yet cannot find proper job???even for 22k??
Add your comment »I suppose it depends on what area of banking (I assume within an IB) you are seeking to get into. The key questions are, do you have previous experience, what class of degree did you obtain and where did you do your MSc? Basically, from what I have heard and seen at my bank, there is still hiring going on but a) places are down b)the candidate pool is larger and c) most significantly, since there are less jobs available, the competition in terms of numbers and quality is that much higher. For example, at my place (large US IB), there is still hiring occurring but not on the scale of one or two years ago. More than that, the quality of CV's coming through is significantly higher (believe me, I have seen some of them and I have even thought to myself, "this person is way too bright/qualified" to be coming in at such a junior evel. Anyway, I would say keep persisting and something will eventually arise but you will probably have to a) be prepared to a) work your way through (not just the ranks but even departments) and b) fight like crazy to get a position.

That told me nothing I already knew...."
That means you previously knew nothing that was in the article. And you're in hedge funds!? Good lad
To be honest, the info was trivial, since we all know these are promotional tactics rather than genuine intakes. Come on look @ MS, there is no way they are recruiting similar as last year.. most of them are cutting jobs for professionals. GS is cutting 10% soon, and yes I am sure there are occasions where 1or 2 positions pop up, but with a pool of thousands appliactions of high quality, what honestly is ur chance of winning. Frankly, I will suggest try for front office, but expect nothing, and start focusing on other non-core roles. And anonymous, if u want a job for 22K, there are dozens available, McDonalds manager get that and up to 45K in 2 years. The matter is would u do it! Also Chris is right, MSc is nothing if u have no relevant experience, extracurricular stuff nor from a top uni with the right grades.
Add your comment »How can we find out which hedge funds are hiring graduates? Is it possible with a UCL MSc to go in directly after graduation and some relevant work experience?
