I have 2 wks experience in compliance. Should I take a longterm internship or apply for a graduate programme?

I have only 2 weeks experince in compliance with Zurich Insurance and am particularly keen on going into M&A. I have 1 yr left of a pharmacology degree at Kings College London - predicted 2:1. I was unable to apply during my penultimate year because I was awarded a Student Scholarship and therefore spent 8 weeks in a lab. I have 320 points at A level and what I consider to be extensive extra-curricular activities with respect to my peers. Would it be better to apply for a grad programme somewhere or to take a year out, get a long term intership and finish learning to speak french fluently? Asked by jc1987, 42 days ago

I would keep all your options open – ie apply for a long term internship (difficult to get as most companies use 10 week internships as feeders for their fulltime programmes - hence the focus on penultimate year students – they see it as an early opportunity to get to the best and brightest sooner), continue to pursue extracurricular activities, consider a year out (but make sure its unique / includes valuable learning experiences for your cv. Unless your French will be 100% bilingual then I would forget this, and employer would always prefer a true French speaker. I would also look into doing a masters in Finance as you may have difficulties getting into finance with a Pharmacology degree unless you are incredibly focussed and prepared on the area that you are looking into – probably more valuable to you than a year out / perfecting your French.
