I would say that the two obvious areas to focus on are 1. Reigning in/preventing Inflation from getting out of control. BoE has a 2% target and we are shortly to see inflation at 4-5%. 2. Managing the economy through a downturn/recession. Beyond that, I would probably pick managing the exchange rate to ensure we are competitive in the global economy but also maintaining an appropriate balance in our current account balance (exports – imports). Alternatively, ensuring liquidity is provided to financial institutions to prevent a major financial meltdown.

This question from the Bank of England requires a great deal of thought as your answer will tell the recruiter exactly what you understand about the economy and the bank of England. I would research Bloomberg and Reuters + other sources as you will find a huge amount of info on the strength of the pound, other currencies, interest rates, falling house prices in the UK and the Bank's inability to act in light of inflation which is twice the official target at 3.8%. Look into other areas of the UK economy - oil prices, food prices..... Try to get hold of any economist's reports if you can and then have a go at answering the question on the banks priorities. As long as your answer is informed and well researched you will be ok. Keep it short, concise and make references if possible as well as including your own thoughts.
