what would be the ideal time for a Fall student to start applying for a summer internship in the U.S

I have already answered this question below - "I would look at applying in December 2008 as applications usually close in January or February 2009. Your careers centre should also have the exact deadlines for each employer as they are all slightly different." However what I would add is, find out which employers are coming to your campus and attend their presentation. They will have organised their presentation so that they see you before the deadline expires, so certainly attend the presentation and then apply !
